Someone decided to do a little bump and run on my front bumper.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Any suggestions on how to take care of this? File a claim? Get an estimate? I'd like to get a new bumper but not right before winter! Never had to deal with a situation like this before. Thanks Opponauts!

I would take some more pictures, see what you need to file a claim and then hit it with some polishing compound, I can't tell if that is the base plastic of your bumper or paint from their car.

Pretty sure it's white paint from their car. You can expand the pictures for a little more detail.

You are gonna have to sticker bomb your car now

I could never! Although the back glass is begging for an Oppo sticker.

Take more pictures and give the area a wipe down with some panel wipe of IsoPropyl Alcohol as most looks like paint transfer from the other vehicle and see what you've got left. If the paint hasn't been taken down to the plastic give it a hit with a polishing compound (by hand is okay if you don't have a DA or rotary but will take a bit more time, then finish off with a regular fine polish to eliminate any holograms that may of been done with the compound (dark colours are a pain for holograms that most other colours don't show) and then wax or seal.

The two most severe areas here:

Look like it may of gone through.

Have a word with your local repair shop regarding a smart repair and get a quote or two. If you know the vehicle that did it, (this is based on U.K. so the U.S. may be different) report it to the police and get a 'crime number' then phone your insurance otherwise phone your insurer to see what they want to do. Though sometimes it's easier to take the hit and pay out of your pocket than affect your insurance premiums. I don't know about U.S. insurers but some U.K. ones will let you get a smart repair or two without it affecting your no claims or premiums.

Good luck, let us know how you got on.

Thanks for all of your help. I couldn't find the car that did it. I'll do as much cleaning up as I can and see what a local place has to say because, like you said, it might be better to pay out of pocket than have a claim affect my premium.

I was joking for the sticker bomb BTW, I hate those with a passion.

Only Sticker I have on my car is on the rear Glass and it's sx4club

even if that forum is dead.

No worries fella. It boils my pi55 that people can't own up to their own incidents. In the U.K. they would also have the legal charge of leaving the scene of an accident without taking due care to find the owner of the damaged vehicle or leaving contact details with the damaged vehicle.

But ye', a couple of pea sized amounts of compound on a semi firm pad should work wonders after panel wiping to see what you've to play with and then a regular/finishing polish to refine.

Yea I have never put a sticker on any of my cars. I strive for the clean look which is why this bumper nonsense is so frustrating! If only she always looked this good..
